How do Tarflen mesh mist eliminators work?

The coalescing element causes the flowing gas to change its flow direction. Droplets interact with each other and the mesh, coalescing to form larger droplets, which are then separated from the gas phase and fall due to gravity. The droplets separate easily thanks to the anti-adhesive properties of Tarflen. These devices are used in locations requiring an effective yet cost-effective solution for separating gas from liquid droplets with diameters > 2μm. However, the gas must be free of sticky substances and dust, which can be addressed by systematically flushing the device with a spray.

Its primary application is the separation of sulfuric acid droplets from gases that escape into the atmosphere via absorption columns and are dried in sulfuric acid production plants. Using mist eliminators in these plants will effectively remove even the acid mist generated by the reaction of water vapor and sulfur oxides, contributing to both improved technological parameters and environmental protection. This is similar to the operations of phosphoric, nitric, and other acid plants.

Construction of Mister Demisters

The mesh insert can function as a standalone unit or be mounted on a special steel grid structure. For diameters up to 800 mm, a supporting structure is not necessary. Larger demisters, however, must be reinforced with a grid to ensure the desired rigidity of the structure. Depending on preferences and requirements, it can have various shapes: a – circular, b – spiral, c – circular segmented, d – rectangular.

For larger diameters, the structure is divided perpendicularly, resulting in the longest elements being half the diameter of the mist eliminator. These dimensions depend on installation considerations (e.g., the diameter of the column manhole).

Thanks to their properties, demisters are ideal for environmental protection and protect the installation itself from corrosion. They are also used for the recovery of valuable substances. Their functionality and versatility make them suitable for use in various industries, including plastics processing, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and chlorine production, as well as the production of ammonium nitrate and urea. We encourage you to take advantage of all the advantages of these devices today.
