Polyamide

Polyamide, also known as nylon, is one of the most commonly used engineering plastics in industry. Its unique properties, such as high mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, make it an ideal material for manufacturing machine components. Thanks to its flexibility and vibration damping properties, polyamide finds applications in numerous industries, from automotive to electronics.

Polyamides are characterized by a semi-crystalline structure, which gives them exceptional strength and dimensional stability. They are available in various modifications, allowing their properties to be tailored to specific application needs. For example, the addition of molybdenum disulfide increases abrasion resistance, while glass fiber improves stiffness and mechanical strength.

Polyamide Properties

Polyamide is characterized by excellent mechanical strength and flexibility, making it an ideal material for applications requiring high resistance to dynamic loads. Its low coefficient of friction and good sliding properties make it often used in the production of moving parts. Additionally, polyamide is characterized by high chemical resistance to alkalis and solvents. Due to its structure, polyamide is a material with high impact strength even at low temperatures. Its self-extinguishing ability in the event of a fire increases safety in applications exposed to fire.

The electrical insulating properties of polyamide are particularly valued in the electrical and electronics industries. Its ability to operate at high temperatures without compromising its mechanical properties makes it indispensable for the production of components exposed to extreme operating conditions. Polyamide is also resistant to UV radiation, increasing its durability in outdoor applications.

Applications of Polyamide

Polyamide finds wide application in various industries thanks to its exceptional mechanical and chemical properties. It is commonly used in the production of machine components such as gears, bearings, and guides. Its ability to dampen vibrations makes it an ideal material for the production of sliding elements and insulators. In the automotive industry, polyamide is used for the production of car parts requiring high mechanical strength and chemical resistance. In electronics, it serves as an insulating and structural material for components exposed to high temperatures. Polyamide is also used in the food industry due to its chemical resistance and ease of cleaning.

How is Polyamide Used?

Polyamide is widely used as a structural material due to its unique mechanical and chemical properties. In mechanical engineering, it is used to manufacture components exposed to high dynamic loads and external factors. Its ability to operate over a wide temperature range makes it indispensable in many industrial applications. In the electrical industry, polyamide serves as an insulator and structural material for components operating under high voltage. Its excellent electrical insulating properties and UV resistance make it an ideal choice for outdoor applications. Polyamide is also used in the chemical industry due to its resistance to aggressive substances.

Polyamide Modification

Polyamides are semi-crystalline, light-colored plastics. They can be combined with numerous additives to improve their properties. Materials used to modify the material include molybdenum disulfide (PA6 + MoS2), mineral oil (PA6 G + oil), and glass fiber (PA6 GF30, PA66 GF30).

PA6 polyamide is an engineering plastic with increased abrasion resistance, excellent vibration damping properties, and outstanding mechanical strength. It has a wide range of applications. Its most popular modification is PA6 + MoS2, which offers greater abrasion resistance but reduced friction parameters. Other characteristics remain unchanged. The PA6 G material is distinguished by its excellent mechanical properties. It is abrasion-resistant and has excellent machinability. It is used in the production of parts with increased wear resistance, as well as in the production of various types of linings. It retains its properties even at very high temperatures (over 60°C). The most popular modifications of this material include PA6 G + oil (excellent sliding properties, excellent for dry operation) and PA6 GF30 (enriched with 30% glass fiber, which improves stiffness and strength).

PA66 is used in products intended for high-temperature operation (valves, bushings, sealing rings, etc.). It has excellent electrical insulating properties. This easily bondable polyamide boasts high mechanical strength, enhanced thermal resistance, and high stiffness. It can be used even at temperatures approaching 100°C. The most popular modification of this engineering plastic is PA66 GF30, which contains a 30% glass fiber addition, which increases stiffness while also providing stability.
