PEEK
PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is the most important member of the polyaryletherketone group. It is a high-temperature thermoplastic. PEEK is a high-performance material, finding applications where other materials fail – for long-term operation at elevated temperatures and humidity. PEEK can be used as a metal substitute. It is used in sliding elements, gears, tank linings, and components in nuclear and X-ray technology. Its high fracture toughness makes PEEK easily tolerant to sterilization conditions, making it widely used in medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, and the food industry.
Properties:
Very high thermal resistance (continuous operation up to 260°C, and short-term operation up to 300°C),
high stiffness,
low water absorption, resulting in high dimensional stability,
high hardness,
low coefficient of friction, low abrasion,
good electrical properties,
resistance to hydrolysis,
good chemical resistance,
resistance to gamma and X-ray radiation,
low coefficient of thermal expansion,
self-extinguishing.
